Sensei Joel Neves Briard is the co-founder and instructor of the Kanzendo dojo in Montreal, Canada.

Sensei Neves Briard began his studies of the martial arts in 1997 in Shorinjiryu Kentokukan Karatedo. Instructed by Sensei Kuldip Thind, Yon-Dan, he obtained his Shodan in May of 2003 and assumed the role of Sempai. Sensei Neves Briard continued his studies under Sensei Mark Filippelli, Go-dan, receiving the rank of Nidan in Shorinjiryu in November of 2004 and Sandan in May of 2006. Sensei Neves Briard was teaching children and adults in the art of karate at the Shindokai and Seishinkan dojo.

In November of 2006, Sensei Neves Briard began his studies of Aikibudo and Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu Kobudo under Master Raymond Damblant, Hachidan in Judo and Rokkudan in Aikibudo. It was a year after beginning his studies in these arts that Sensei Neves Briard developed the Kanzendo Curriculum and opened his dojo with Sensei Alain Briard. Since then, Kanzendo has aided its members in the development of their martial skills as well as their concentration, patience, dedication and modesty.

Sensei Neves Briard teaches while continuously practicing karatedo, aikibudo and kobudo, striving to obtained his shodan in Aikibudo as well as Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu. Additionally, he completed his own empty hand kata in May of 2009, Kata Odayakana, an advanced kata containing fundamental principles of all three arts. Sensei Neves also practices Japanese calligraphy and reads much on martial arts history and etiquette.
