Techniques - Kata: Chinto Dai

Level of Difficulty: Black Belt 4th Dan

This Kata literally meaning "fighting towards the east", is also an extremely old Kata representative of the Shorin style. It emphasizes kicking techniques and one leg stances (like a crane). It consist of quick, sudden attacks and counter attacks. It also contains armlocks techniques and defenses against holding. Chinto also teaches how to take advantage of the natural environment (such as fighting with the sun to one's back to dazzle the opponent) and the principles of fighting in the dark. Ther are two version of this Kata one short with a great number of crane stances (Koshiki Chinto) and one very long with a multitude of varying techniques including many self defense techniques (Chinto Dai).
