Crane stance.
 Crane Stance
This stance is peculiar looking, however, is used often in the application of the side kick. Though there are other stance known as crane, the one shown to the right by Sensei Kukura is the Crane stance used in martial arts of Japanese origin.
An important consideration when assuming this stance is to keep the supporting leg slightly bent. Do not lock the knee of the supporting leg. The pulled leg may rest flat footed on the side of the knee of the supporting leg or may wrap around the back of the knee as shown by Shihan Henderson.
Common errors include: 1. misplacing of the alternate arms, 2. not bending the knee of the supporting leg, and 3. bending the knee of the supporting leg too much.
