Newsflash
...a person cannot possibly seek what he knows, and, just as impossibly, he cannot seek what he does not know, for what he knows he cannot seek, since he knows it, and what he does not know he cannot seek because, after all, he does not even know what he is suppose to seek.

Below is a video representation of Naihanchin Ichi Kata as performed by Shihan Henderson. Students should note that Naihanchin Ichi contains both a left and right side. Thus, the movements below should be mirrored on the opposite side.

This Kata is usually taught at the green belt or brown belt level (4th to 1st kyu) within the syllabus of The International Budo Institute. As we saw earlier, Naihanchin Bubishido Kata focuses on lateral movements with heavy horse stances and triangular movements. The same is true for Naihanchin Ichi yet it is performed quicker and lighter than Naihanchin Bubishido and replaces the heavy stances with closed defensive stances, cat stances and crane stances. In this respect students who enjoy kata that focus on the lighter stances will most likely enjoy this kata.

Also, this kata can act as a bridge between Naihanchin Bubishido and Nijushiho since it introduces a lighter feel with quicker movements something that is shared with Nijushiho Kata.

Once learnt this Kata has bcome a favourite of many students.

As mentioned, Naihanchin Ichi Kata shares the same general footwork and geometry as Naihanchin Bubishido, so learning this kata should not be difficult once Naihanchin Bubishido is well understood. This kata focuses on fast strikes and high stances such as the crane stance. The Kata also emphasizes shifts in body position as opposed to large steps that are found in Naihanchin Bubishido.
