Membership in The International Budo Institute is open to all regardless of their present affiliation. That
is, students are not required to give up their memberships in their
present martial art style in order to benefit from the information
found on this site or to obtain materials from The Institute. The
Institue was created in order to help reinforce student learning
whether or not the student is presently established at an operating
dojo (school). As a student, you may continue to practice and be active
in your present martial art style or school and at the same time be a
member of The International Budo Institute and obtain information and
knowledge to further grow. Membership
and ranking within The International Budo Institute is independent of
all other schools and styles. As a learning institute, the internal
ranking of instructors and students is independent and follows the
guidelines solely of The Institute. In this respect, students wishing
to pass exams for Dan equivalence may do so within the structure of The
Institute regardless of their Dan ranking elsewhere. Thus, a student
may be 2nd Dan within his own style of Karate, Judo, Jujutsu or Aikido
and endeavour to obtain a 3rd Dan ranking within The Institute. The 3rd
Dan ranking in no way affects his/her ranking within their primary school
and is separate of it. Flexibility With
this flexibility students are able to continue to study martial arts
while maintaining a rank within The Institute. They may otherwise move
between styles, schools, teachers or countries and not need to worry
about their rank status in The Institute which remains constant. Schools/styles
come and go. Teachers and instructors move away, students change their
own living situations and unfortunately schools simply close. With The
Institute you may remain as a Dan ranked student no matter where you
find yourself geographically located or no matter what events transpire
with your present school. Geography The
International Buso Institute has members from many different martial
arts, including: Karate, Judo, Aikido, Jujutsu and Taekwondo. Members
come from various countries including: Canada, the U.S.A., Australia, Africa
and Europe.
Full Membership If you wish to be a full member in The
International Budo Institute you need to register on this web site for
free so that other students may see where you are from and your

efforts of The Institute in developing further materials that all

for we hope that you will become a paid member and join in the support. Benefits of Membership - Exisitng Dan Recognition

specific benefit of membership within The Institute is that you become
eligible for Dan recognition and further Dan certification / promotion.

requirements tailored to the individual's needs. Exisiting
Dan recognition is available to all paid members of The Institute who
wish to bring their existing Dan Diploma from an outside school up to
date. There is an applicable registration and processing fee. Also,
students may request a physical black belt from The Institute. Proof of

of martial arts, they may complete a home study program in order to
seek Dan promotion. The requirement for Dan promotion is designed
on an individual basis taking into account the background of the
student and their particular experience.
School Memberships
The International Budo Institute offers school memberships that are
available to individual dojos. In order to be eligible, the head
instructor must be a paid member of The Institute and formally request
his or her desire for their school to become a
recognized member of The Institute. At that point, an evaluation
of the credentials and proficiency of the instructor or Sensei will be
made. Upon acceptance official status is confered and a teaching level
certificate is issued. All students of the member school that are above
the rank and including Yon-dan, 4th dan, must become individual members of The Institute. Students of member dojos of the rank of San-dan and below are members of The Institute by virtue of their membership within the member dojo. Nevertheless, these students may become members on an individual basis if they so desire. Again, membership is extremely affordable and is solely to help support the efforts of The Institute.
Benefits of School Membership
Schools that join/associate with The Institute as member dojos are able to make use of all the existing and future materials of The Institute including videos and study guides. These materials are available for free and must be passed on to students free of change save for the cost of reproduction. Member dojos also receive a certificate of membership attesting to their standing in The Institute. This certificate is suitable for framing and display within the member dojo. All instructors and students of member dojos of The Institute are allowed to wear the badge of The Institute as well as an offical Institute Black Belt.
